20.04 – USB Hub Switching does not reconnect devices

I have a USB switch connected to two computers. When I switch it away and back to my laptop, the attached USB devices are not reconnected.

I have a Dell XPS 13 9300 Laptop running Ubuntu 20.04. I’m connecting to a USB-C docking adapter, which connects to a KVM-USB hub (2-computers, 4-USB ports). When I first start the computer all devices connect fine. If I reconnect the USB-C adapter then all devices are recognized again.

My other computer is also Ubuntu (18.04) and does not have a problem (though the hub is connected directly to a USB port on the computer there).

How can I get my USB devices to be recognized correctly when I toggle the KVM USB-Hub.

When I run lsusb I can see the HUB after reconnect. I however do not see the devices attached to it. When I reconnect the docking adapter, lsusb then shows all of the devices attached to the hub.

Is there perhaps a way to force a rescan of the USB devices?
