string – When do values passed to a parameter require quotes?

I have been working with Exchange Online unified groups and Microsoft Teams teams in powershell: New-UnifiedGroup, Set-UnifiedGroup, Get-UnifiedGroup, New-Team, Get-Team etc. I have been creating groups and teams from PowerShell.

I am interested in understanding a bit better when a value for a parameter requires quotes and when it does not.

When I import from CSV, it seems the values are automatically interpreted as strings. When I supply them to a parameter that requires a string, the value does not require quotes even if it has spaces e.g New-UnifiedGroup -DisplayName $item.displayName does not require quotes even when the display name has spaces.

But when I want to create a team from an existing group, and I get the ID of the group, the group id requires quotes: New-Teams -GroupId "$group.ExternalDirectoryObjectId". In this case the parameter -GroupId requires a string value, although the ExternalDirectoryObjectId that it requires is not a string.

Is there a rule that a value does not require quotes if it is a string, and a string value is expected? Does it help to declare a variable as a string before passing it to a parameter that requires a string? For example, if I have a $path variable, I usually have to provide it as -Path "$path". If I declared the path as [String]$path =, would I then not need to use the quotes in -Path $path

The Best Cheap VPS Hosting in Review – 2020 Edition

The best Cheap VPS Hosting of 2020

A few months ago we highlighted the Top VPS Hosting Providers in 2019 according to the votes of LowEndTalk members.

To carry on that effort we have put together a short summary of some of the Top Cheap VPS Hosting Providers in 2020 which we invite you to take a look at!

We also recently published a short list of some of the Top Los Angeles VPS Hosts.

We will continue to put together these top lists once a year or perhaps a bit more often if the feedback is positive. As always, we are looking forward to your comments.

sharepoint online – Get Display names of Direct reportees in Office 365

I need to get display names for all the direct reportees under a manager. I am using below code to get direct reporteees using rest in SPFx using react.

getReportees = () => {
    var reportees = ();
    var reactHandler = this;
    var drReportess = ();
    $.ajax({
      url: this.siteUrl+"/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetPropertiesFor(accountName=@v)?@v='" + encodeURIComponent(accountName) + "'&$select=DirectReports",
      method: "GET",
      headers: { "Accept": "application/json; odata=verbose" },
      crossDomain: true
    }).done((data)=>{
      let length: Number = data.d.DirectReports.results.length > 0 ? data.d.DirectReports.results.length : 0;
      if(length>0){
        $.each(data.d.DirectReports.results, function (i, value: string) {
          reportees.push(value);
        });
        $.each(reportees,function(i,value){
          $.ajax({
            url:  this.siteUrl+"/_api/SP.UserProfiles.PeopleManager/GetUserProfilePropertyFor(accountName=@v,propertyName='PreferredName')?@v='" + encodeURIComponent(value) + "'",
            method: "GET",
            headers: { "Accept": "application/json; odata=verbose" }
          }).done((data)=>{
            drReportess.push({
              Title: data.d.GetUserProfilePropertyFor,
              LoginName: value
            })
          })
        })
        reactHandler.setState({
          directReportees: drReportess
        })
        console.log(reactHandler.state.directReportees);
      }
    })
  }

problem with this code is the render function is loading first before completing the rest call so DOM is empty.

database design – Constructing relational model from ER

I’m given the following ER model.

enter image description here

It’s unclear to me how I’d identify copies. For the image entity I think it’s sufficient to take the ‘ArtistName’ and ‘ImageName’ as a combined primary key.

Another problem is that if I am going to use this combined primary key, any table referencing this entity would need 2 columns to identify the image. It all seems easier using simple IDs. So considering (1) disk space and (2) performance (comparing 2 string keys vs 1 integer key) unique IDs seem to be the superior option.

Because the ‘buys’ relationship contains an attribute and in the exercise we’re explicitly told to avoid NULL-attributes I can’t really add a ‘boughtBy’ attribute to the copy entity (as it is perhaps not bought yet)

So using an auxiliary table I clearly need to have a primary key for copies. The easiest way would be to simply add an CopyID attribute but from the exercise it’s not clear to me if I should only construct PKs from existing attributes only.

If there’s an in-between solution I’m grateful hearing your suggestions. 🙂

import – Difficultly importing GeoTiff format

I downloaded Earth data from here. It is a GeoTiff file, which is a map of solar radiation falling on earth.

enter image description here

Mathematica claims to import GeoTiff files. However, when I import,

SetDirectory[NotebookDirectory[]]
files = FileNames["*", "./diffuse/"][[1]]
diffuse = Import[files, {"GeoTIFF", "Image"}]

The output is an error:

LinkObject::linkd: Unable to communicate with closed link LinkObject['/Applications/Mathematica.app/Contents/SystemFiles/Converters/Binaries/MacOSX-x86-64/GDAL.exe',6300,8].
Import::fmterr: Cannot import data as GeoTIFF format.

I can get the file to open using other GeoTiff programs such as QCIS. So it does seem to be a Mathematica issue. Any ideas? It is an error which I have not encountered before.
