Conversion comparison between users who navigate from autocomplete and users who submit via the search form

Recently, I came across the way Instagram conducts its search. Basically, you get autocomplete results, but the ability to actually submit the form and navigate to your traditional search results page is disabled. I found this interesting for the fact that millions of potential users or posts are convinced that the user will find what he is looking for in no more than a dozen results. Is there evidence that shows users choose more from autocomplete than navigating to a results page?
