ethernet is connected and active but browsers and speedtest cannot connect to the internet, WiFi connects to the internet fine

With ethernet connected I can ping the router. Using a browser and letmeoutofyour.net:8080 returns W00tW00t, 443 sits and spins. Using a MacBook Pro early 2011, High Sierra 10.13.6. It seems to be a firewall issue, but I haven’t found where it is.
