transit – Transiting Budapest Airport in Times of COVID

I’m supposed to fly from BUD to the US at the end of the month. Due to COVID restrictions, as a US citizen, I can’t enter Hungary; however, according to the BUD airport website and various government websites, I can transit BUD if I show proof of onward travel as long as it’s within 24 hours. I would appreciate some advice/guidance on my plan:

In order to remain in the transit area and stay airside, I’ve booked a separate ticket from Paris to BUD, and I’d arrive late at night. I’d spend less than 7 hours in BUD before catching my flight to the US (via Paris) the next morning. Is this permitted? (I’m worried about being denied boarding on my evening flight to BUD from Paris.) The BUD airport website seems to suggest that transit passengers (who are non-Hungarian citizens) can stay airside and they provide blankets, cots, and wifi before catching their next flight, and I seem to fulfill all the requirements listed.

buses – Bratislava (airport) to Budapest

I am traveling to Budapest next month via Bratislava airport.
We will be arriving at 20:40 in Bratislava, and we want to catch a bus or train to Budapest ASAP.

From what I have found the best option is to catch the 21:30 FlixBus from Bratislava, AS Mlynské nivy station.

The only other available options, that leave later from Bratislava airport, are going through Vienna, which is in the opposite direction, and the trip lasts many hours.

So I would like to ask, if you think it would be possible (if the flight has no delays of course) to make it to the bus station by 21:30 from the airport (leaving say at 21:00) on a Friday night. (We will take a taxi from the airport in order to have a chance to be on time.) Our flight is from within Schengen, so we’ll only have to wait for checked bags, not immigration.

P.S. If you know of any other available options please let me know.

Update
The FlixBus service is the only one I could find online. I would be greatful if someone local can point me to other transportation services available (like local bus companies) that have any routes later that 21:30 from Bratislava to Budapest.

I would be interested also to know how much approximately a taxi fare would be.

AFTER TRIP UPDATE

For what it’s worth, it seems that we could have made it after all, but it would cost about 25€(~30$).

The taxi ride was less than 15 minutes, with almost no traffic at all (being it holy Friday i suppose(?)) and since we had no checked in bags, and the taxis were just outside the arrival hall, we were able to get one at 21:00.

Just be careful when going to the bus station, as it seems that the old terminal, that is permanently closed, is still listed on Google maps, and that can be misleading.

Here’s what they had to say about themselves:

This is a small family operated business, but growing steadily in Hungary. We started selling VPS 5 years ago with 2 servers, now we have 12 running in datacenter, and another 4 as spare. I think our main advantage is that our system is fully automated, and that we don’t have any employee, that means we care for our customers, as we are depend on them not like an employee who’s payment doesn’t depend on the customers as much as we do.

So if you’re looking for a VPS in Eastern Europe, take a look at VPS4You and be sure to comment below what your experience is.

customs and immigration – Are there Schengen airports besides Budapest with border “holes”?

Due to COVID-19, many Schengen arrivals in Budapest take place at the non-Schengen sector. As such, despite doing a Schengen -> non-Schengen transfer, I won’t be clearing any Schengen exit control at all. Beats me how those needing an exit stamp would get one (I just e-mailed the airport police and asked out of curiosity – the officers hanging around here don’t speak English).

Are there any other Schengen airports with this, IMO, serious hole in the external Schengen border?

schengen – Travelling restrictions from Budapest, Hungary to Lisbon, Portugal

I would like to travel from Budapest, Hungary to Lisbon, Portugal. I have a return (June 21 – 24, 2020) flight ticket from Budapest, Hungary to Lisbon, Portugal.

For the last 4 months, I was in Budapest, Hungary. I am a non-EU country citizen. I have a residence permit for studying purposes in Hungary. I could not find information about travel restrictions in Portugal and Hungary for non-EU citizens with (temporary) residence permits.

My question: What are travel restrictions when I will go to Lisbon, Portugal? Should I go to quarantine? What about when I come back to Budapest, Hungary?

Customs and immigration – transit in Budapest – one or two tickets?

Foreigners are prohibited from entering Hungary due to Covid.
However, it is not clear whether a foreigner can connect at a Hungarian airport to reach another nation.
So I asked Budapest Airport and I was told that I was allowed to change at their airport without leaving the area.

However, it gets chaotic here: The airline (Wizz Air) does not offer combined tickets, so I would have done it two separate tickets.
According to Wizz Air, this means that I would have to do it enters the nation even to connect, and as a result, they did not allow me to board the flight to Budapest.

In other words, I think I would be forced to go ashore, which I am not allowed to do.

Potentially relevant details: I would only travel with hand luggage, I have an Italian passport and I plan to travel from Ireland to Italy via Budapest (two flights).

Do you know if there is a workaround?
Any potentially useful comment is welcome.

PS: I'm not sure if I should ask here or on law.stackexchange.

europe – Fees when using a euro debit card in Budapest

For a business trip, I would like to know how to use a debit card from a euro currency country (Greece) in Budapest (forint currency). I have to present receipts for purchases to the company to get the money back.

I wonder if additional fees for using my Greek debit card (conversion, etc.) appear in the receipts or not.

Example:
What happens if I pay with my country's debit card to buy something that costs 100 forints? Are the additional exchange fees shown in the receipt or only in the starting price of the item?

Schengen – What happens when a non-EU citizen with a new Hungarian Student D visa issued in Berlin travels by bus from Berlin to Budapest

I come from India, arrived in Germany on a long-term student visa and live, studied in Germany in the last 11 months, changed my university and moved to Budapest from Budapest with the new student visa D. I have an entry visa with a validity of 6 months and must apply for a residence permit within 30 days of my arrival in Hungary.

My question is, can I take a bus from Berlin to Budapest? Is there a problem with immigration near border control, as I have a new visa issued by the Hungarian Consulate in BERLIN.

Please let me know.
