post thumbnails – Featured Images Not Loading In Blog Archives

A client running a custom theme recently updated their WordPress version from 5.2.7 to 5.7.1. After this update, featured images in blog archives are no longer loading.

The theme has been updated to be compatible with the latest WordPress release and is throwing no errors.

To be clear, the markup is there — we have the img tag loading with all necessary data (class, src, srcset, etc.). It’s just that the image itself won’t load, as though it’s missing from the server. I’ve tried removing the featured image, setting a new featured image, and uploading a new featured image. I’ve even tried such a simple thing as clearing my cache, but nothing gets the image to load.

I know this will simply be outdated code, but I’m struggling to locate the precise issue. Featured images are enabled with add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' ); and the image is retrieved with echo get_the_post_thumbnail( $post->ID, 'full' );.

I’ve tried regenerating thumbnails with Regenerate Thumbnails in case of any errors, with no success.

Any insight as to how this can be corrected would be much appreciated.

php – How to set featured image from external url img

I’m generating a thumb of a video and its going to the public_html folder with this

  $thumbfile = .$key.".png";
  $videothumb = "/var/www/bamboostock/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/".$file_name;
  $command = "/usr/bin/ffmpeg -i " . $videothumb . " -f mjpeg -t 1 -r 1 -y ".$thumbfile;
  system($command);

Now I need this image to set as Featured, but nothing is working

php – Featured Images and Google LCP

I’m seeing a very interesting development with the_post_thumbnail() now that Google has added the page experience to the Google search console, now you can see page experience and I have 51 pages fail LCP because of

<?php if (has_post_thumbnail( $post->ID ) ): ?>
  <?php $image_alt = get_post_meta( '_wp_attachment_image_alt', TRUE);?>
    <div id="post-img-header">
      <?php the_post_thumbnail( 'post-header'); ?>
     </div>
 <?php endif; ?>

Using the_post_thumbnail even though this image is optimized is seeing a 20 page-speed point decrease in both page-speed and lighthouse. If i swap this image out for a normal tag i do not see this issue.

I have added an image CDN and now deliver the_post_thumbnail as WebP but this still does not make the same difference that removing post thumb and adding in a normal image tag does.

enter image description here

it’s not even like these are huge images in dimensions or even file size (72.7 KB)

and it is only happening to pages that use the_post_thumbnail which is really just our blog all other pages are using ACF images that do not see an LCP fail issue.

post thumbnails – Assign wordpress featured images via external URL based on numeric value in custom fields

I want to create function that would allow us to assign different image based on identified value. I have around 150 posts with a custom field ‘floorplan-image-id’ which has a unique value (number) that feeds from XML.
The featured image for each post should be automatically assigned via external URL based on the above custom field value.

Example: if floorplan-image-id = 12345
then the Featured image will be : //someurl.com/images/floorplan-1.png

else if floorplan-image-id = 34567
then the Featured image will be : //someurl.com/images/floorplan-2.png

Also, should I use “function set_post_thumbnail( $post, $thumbnail_id )”

Honestly, I don’t know what I am doing and need some guidance

====================

function custom_floorplan-image($html, $post_id, $meta_field) {

$meta_field = get_post_meta($post->ID, ‘floorplan-image-id’, true);

if ($meta_field === '12345') {
    $html = "<img src="https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/"//mysite.com/images/Floorplan_A1.png"http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/">";
}else if ($meta_field === '34567') {
    $html = "<img src="https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/"//mysite.com/images/Floorplan_A2.png"http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/">";
}

return $html;

}

add_filter(‘post_thumbnail_html’, ‘custom_floorplan-image’, 10, 3);
