I have a German (D type national visa) but was not allowed entry into another schengen state

I was travelling from Germany to Hungary on a valid German (D type national visa). The visa mentions Germany in valid to field. However while travelling to Hungary through rail, i was stopped and checked by Austrian police who after looking at the visa said it was not valid for travel to other schengen states but only Germany. They later handed me over to Hungarian police, who detained me for few hours, checked my visa, and later released me telling me that I should immediately return to Germany, without continuing to my destination (Budapest). Was this denial of entry legal, and would the Hungarian authorities have entered this incident in SIS, or could it result in problems now that I am in the process of applying for blue card in Germany?

germany – Are there online maps showing the speed limit on the German highways?

The problem with all these maps is that there is no official master-map showing the limits on a given section of motorway in Germany. Thus, it is either the map creator collecting the information by themself or one needs to rely on user-acquired content.

Furthermore, no maps can accurately account for roadworks; they will typically be on short notice and only there for a rather short time making it incredibly complicated including those on motorway maps. Also, large streches of German motorways have variable speed limits that may or may not be included in the entire map. (But since these variable speed limits are given from signalling bridges, it makes sense to have them included in one way or another.)

The map uncovery mentions is from autobahnatlas-online.de. This is a creator-type site. He notes:

Another map can be found at autobahn-speedhunter.com. Their data is primarily user-generated; however, the site’s copyright says 2012, so it may also be already outdated.

languages – In GBoard, how can I set multilingual input for English and Swiss German?

The majority of my phone useage happens in either English or Swiss German, and I switch between these languages frequently, even within the same conversation. In GBoard settings, I see the following multilingual options:

  • In the English keyboard settings: German
  • In the German keyboard settings: English
  • In the Swiss German keyboard settings: German

None of these allow me to have English+Swiss German multilingual support. Is there a way this can be achieved?

c++ – I wrote a header file to write German umlauts in a textfile properly

This function is about the fact that a std::wstring was used in another cpp file in order to be able to read strings with German umlauts from the console. Since it is difficult to get wstrings into a text file when a std::ofstream is already accessing the text file, this wstring was converted into a normal std::string using utf8.h. The 16-bit characters that represented umlauts are now 2 cryptic characters (which is logical, I know). A ß becomes ß, an ü becomes ü, as you often see it in everyday life. This is corrected with this .h and .cpp files.

By utf8.h, I mean this:
utf8 package which I downloaded in NuGet Packet Manager

My question is: Could you please review this function and say what you think of the code?
I’m asking because the code is copying one vector to a second one a lot, and, as you see in the last lines, I need to get rid of ‘left-over’ null characters. I want to include the header and cpp file more often, so I want the two to be good.

international travel – Traveling to the USA separate from my German husband…can he still get in?

According to the relevant Presidential Proclamation:

(a) Section 1 of this proclamation shall not apply to:

(…)

(iii) any noncitizen who is the spouse of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident;

There is no condition of residence or simultaneous travel.

Your husband will still require an ESTA (or other visa), and should have the required paperwork. Not sure exactly what paperwork, though, but I suppose some kind of proof of marriage + a copy of your US passport should do.

Note that I believe you will both need a recent negative PCR test even if fully vaccinated.
