I've been wearing corrective lenses for about 7 or 8 years. I am currently well over 50 years old. I have been using readers for at least ten years. My right eye, which I usually use for the viewfinder, is -2.75 dioptres.

When I take pictures with contact lenses, which I wear by default, I use reading glasses with about +2.0 dioptres. I let them slide a bit into my nose and can see the controls and LCD screens in normal holding positions well.

When I hold the viewfinder to my eye, I look over the reading glasses into the viewfinder. Adjusting the camera with a maximum of +1.0 diopter on the viewfinder diopter adjustment wheel is just enough to sharpen the viewfinder information for me.¹ Once I've set everything up, I often remove the readers and shoot without them. I buy many of my t-shirts and polo's with front pockets so I can easily place the readers. If not, I simply hang an earphone over my collar.

In the rare cases where I wear prescription eyewear during shooting, I set the camera's dioptric setting to a position around the -1 diopter "centered" and look through the glasses at the viewfinder. The larger viewfinders of the cameras I use (mainly a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and 7D Mark II) are certainly useful for eyewear. Smaller viewfinders, which tend to have shorter eye relief, make it much harder to get close to the viewfinder when wearing glasses.

¹ Keep in mind that the apparent distance of the information displayed in the viewfinder, along with the apparent distance of the focus screen at -1 in the neutral range of -1 diopter, is about 1 meter for the vast majority of SLRs (analog and digital) ). This displays the infinity focus (and information in the viewfinder) one meter in front of the eye. The 0-diopter add-on shifts the centered eyepiece from its native -1 to 0. Other camera manufacturers refer to this as +1 diopter correction.
