NFC requires a touchup?

So i have been on my reading routes lately and this has led me into the world of IDV. Most of the organisations have isolated IDV programs whereas few has NFC-verification is being offered. Which threw me to the conclusion the rapidly growing tech back in 2000 owing to Nokia might require a touchup before it can re-introduce itself in a non-ignorable fashion. Feedback appreciated.

So for them to actually make this happen they need someone who has ample knowledge on the subject and is not afraid of a few questions posted their way, seems like a great opportunity for anyone who wants to build their name in the industry,

What are the risks of using NFC on a YubiKey versus just a hard connector?

I imagine it would be possible to sniff some data off of these security keys? How real is the risk of sniffing and what could an attacker gain from such an attack (only ephemeral data I am hoping)?

My main concern is that an attacker could basically get access to a long-lasting way to perform authentication.

boot loop – Bootloop MIUI 12 after reboot (Xiaomi POCO X3 NFC)

I got bootloop after MIUI 12 phone restart (Xiaomi POCO X3 NFC).
Using Magisk 21, TWRP v3.4.

I was able to get out the kernel logs, but can not identify where is the problem, what causes the bootloop.

Anybody can identify what causes the bootloop?

Does play store filter out NFC apps for phones which do not have NFC?

That depends on the app. For using NFC in an app the developer has to declare that in the app’s AndroidManifest.xml that is contained it the app (and used by the PlayStore to detect if an app is compatible at all).

When using a feature you can declare if it is required=true or not, if it is not required it is considered optional:

<uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.nfc" android:required="true"/>

Therefore for apps that declare the NFC feature as required=true PlayStore will not show you those apps on a non NFC phone. If it is set to optional (required=false) then you will be able to see this app.

intents – NFC: Spotify URIs open app, not specified resource

My goal is to program NFC tags in such a way, that Spotify starts playing a specific track/album/playlist.

But after writing a Spotify URI (e.g. spotify:track:6rqhFgbbKwnb9MLmUQDhG6) to my tag, it only opens the app and disregards the resource.

The problem seems to be the way Android handles the tag, because the URI works without any problems when I call it from another app.

A related problem is the way URLs are handled: When I open a Spotify URL like https://open.spotify.com/track/6rqhFgbbKwnb9MLmUQDhG6 from another app, it directly launches Spotify, whereas it would unsuccessfully try to open it with a browser after touching the tag.

It seems like Android only processes the scheme of the URI. Is this correct? If so, is there something that can be done to circumvent this? Why would that be the case?

applications – How to drive Philips Hue lighting with NFC tags

Recently I came to use my NFC tags again.

Wondering how I can use my NFC tags to automatize chores like:

  • Turn light on at noon (Alexa/Philips Hue)
  • Turn light off at midnight

I could not find any way to do this using the standard apps (NFC Tools / Trigger). I am not bound to specific app solution.

I tried to use text-to-speech to verbalize Alexa commands with NFC Tools, but this faild since it seem a synthetic voice is not recognized.
