The New HyperV’s Default Switch is supposed to simplify networking for likeness of VirtualBox and VMWare. However, it does not work for my environment where I need multiple NICs assigned with multiple VMs on multiple subnets needing to access internet for updates. I generally will have one VM acting as a NAT to route internet traffic.
I’ve noticed that this default switch is proving to be more problematic than its worth. The initial configuration of switches were
- Default Switch
- External Switch
- Internal Switch 1
- Internal Switch 2
I noticed this caused a huge reduction in internet speed. And after researching, people have said that the External Switch needs to be removed and let the Default one take over. After switching over from external to default, I noticed the the VMs no longer were able to reach the internet, and further, that the default switch had a different IP address, 172.x.x.x.
Further investigation states that I should add an External switch, and when I try, the message comes across as, External Ethernet adapter “ethernetadapter connection (2) l219-LM is already bound to the Microsoft Virtual Switch Protocol.
I looked into the properties of the NICs not see the protocol even installed.
So, two questions,
How do I get the External Switch back (Since I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere that addresses this specific error).
If I manage to get this External Switch back, will it slow performances again?
What am I missing? Okay, that was three questions.
