Sprites – Shoe Box Image Splitting> Texture Atlas Creation

Let me give my question the background.

I'm new to game development, but not JavaScript. I am currently learning Phaser3.

I think about drawing my own character animations. It seems that I would do that in a file, for example in krita or photoshop (suggestions welcome).

If you look at the software shoebox (https://renderhjs.net/shoebox/), you have the option to extract sprites and create texture atlas from split images.

May I say that the workflow would be like this:

  • Draw my character animations in a transparent image file
  • Split it into separate sprites with Shoebox
  • Mount it with Shoebox to a textured atlas
