Ubuntu 20.04.1LTS VirtualBox E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

After an ubuntu update my virtualbox could not load my windows 10 VM, everytime i tried to open it it shows me this error:
vbox error

I followed many tutorials, could not get it running. Ended up re-installing ubuntu, but i still have the same issue after installing vbox.

I am worried that, there are many tutorials on how to solve it online, and i have picked some of the wrong ones, since i have not tried them all.
Any ideas?

After installing vbox, if i try to install another app like lets say ‘git’, it succeeds, but gives me these errors:

boot – Moving VirtualBox to External Drive

I have massive encrypted external drive that I would like to move my entire “VirtualBox VMs” folder onto as to save hard drive space. However, I also keep my manual backup of my system & home settings files in a folder called “machine-clone” on the same external.

This creates the problem that by moving the “VirtualBox VMs” onto the same external USB drive, that if I boot into an Ubuntu liveCD .iso file, I can no longer rsync my “machine-clone” folder into the relevant virtual machine because I can no longer mount the external drive from inside the vbox LiveCD vm.

Does any know a way that I can (rsync) get the “machine clone” files onto the virtual machine, while they are both on the same external drive?

thx

virtualbox – Can’t log into my Kali Linux VM no matter what I do

I am fairly experienced in downloading and installing a variety of Kali Linux distributions and I have never once had this issue.

I just recently downloaded the 2020.4 ISO file image for Kali (kali-linux-2020.4-installer-amd64.iso) for 64 bit.

I followed all the steps for installation, 2 times I even watched a tutorial yet I always have the same issue: I cannot login. It is insane and I am extremely frustrated. I have tried every single combination of root/toor kali/kali admin username/root every thing I could find online it’s all useless. Naturally on my maybe 5th attempt of reinstalling it I tried a simple username like username123 and password 123, even took a photo and it didn’t work. I’ve completely scrubbed virtualbox off my machine then reinstalled it twice already nothing I can think of works. If you are going to help me please heed what I have written as I have already gone to other forums where they give me responses like “You must have forgotten your password” or “try reinstalling”. Any help at all is appreciated and please comment anything you think that is reasonable as in my personal opinion I think I am missing something simple. Feel free to ask any questions that are tech related about my system I am somewhat educated in technology and can probably answer. Thanks in advance for answers.

apt – I am unable to open virtualbox

After the latest Ubuntu updates, I have not been able to open virtualbox, on starting it gives me an error saying the kernel driver is either not loaded or set up properly and that I should reinstall virtualbox-dkms package.

After removing virtualbox, and trying to reinstall I get the error below:

This happens even when I boot from the previous kernel using the grub menu, any help would be very appreciated.

I have also tried to use aptitude to remove any conflicting versions of virtualbox from other repositories but still the same issue.

networking – Kali Linux not connected to Internet in Virtualbox

So I have been learning ethical hacking and in the course it was said that you need to have the Windows 10 (virtual) and Kali virtual machine set to NAT Network not NAT. So I did that but when I opened my Kali machine it was not connected to internet but my virtual Windows was connected to Internet. So I don’t know what the problem is. I searched on Google and I found something similar like this on askubuntu.com which said that when you set to NAT Network the VMs will not have any access to Internet. Someone said that set Network connection to Kali as NAT and let Windows 10 be NAT network but I still no success. So I don’t know what should I do so guys if someone has a solution then please send it to me.
Thank you.

virtual machine – Multiple monitors don’t work, after exporting ‘Kali-linux.OVA’ from VirtualBox and importing it in VMware. How can I make this work?

I exported Kali-Linux VirtualBox machine to .ova to be able to import it in VMware then I installed VMware tools and every thing worked fine, But when I tried to open multiple monitors it didn’t work.

I tried the following:

  1. User host settings
  2. Specify more than one monitor with a sufficiently-high maximum resolution.

After trying these above, I got the same errors shown in images below:

this error message show when I trying to open multiscreen button after opening full screen to the machine

This is Display tab and its errors

Notes:
I have tried to run VMware multiple monitors on other machines included other kali-machine and all of them worked fine.

Thanks in advance.
