While finding twrp stock from for my mobile device I founded following custom ROM for my mobile

Now as a novice and new to a droid Linux programming I just knew the difference or custom and stock to.is that the stock from is made my manufacturer and custom ROM is made modified created version by indivdual android programmers developers. The pros I know as Custom ROMs are customized so it have .More features and supports than stock ROMs.
Is custom ROMs flashing safe for hardware does it may damages mobile hardware chips or any serious concerns?
as custom ROMs are created by individuals and vulnerable and may have spyware malware and insecure can we dedicate or scan the malware spyware through antivirus
